Whats the cost?

Your Entitlement to a Free NHS Eye Examination
Direct Eyecare home visiting service is free, and sight tests are free to all those patients who qualify. There is also a free range of glasses available to those who qualify.

You are entitled to a free NHS sight test if you are:

  • aged 60 or over,
  • under 16, or under 19 and in full time education,
  • registered blind or partially sighted, diagnosed as having diabetes or glaucoma,
  • 40 or over with a direct relative with glaucoma, or you have been advised by the ophthalmologist that you are at risk of glaucoma.
  • prescribed a complex lens,

You are entitled to a free NHS sight test if you (or your partner) are receiving the following benefits or credits:

  • Income Support or Income Based Job Seekers Allowance (not contribution based)
  • Working Tax Credit and are named on a Tax Credit NHS Exemption Certificate
  • Child Tax Credit and are named on a Tax Credit NHS Exemption Certificate
  • You are named on a NHS Certificate for full help with health costs (HC2)

IF YOU QUALIFY FOR ANY OF THE ABOVE AND ARE UNABLE TO GET TO A HIGH STREET OPTICIAN UNACCOMPANIED, THEN YOU ARE ENTITLED TO A FREE HOME EYE TEST.

Free NHS Glasses
Patients that are in receipt of income support, pension credit guarantee or a valid HC2 / HC3 certificate are entitled to free glasses.
